The public has been gravely misinformed about nutrition and human dietary needs, and it has cost us our health. Worse, it has put our children’s health in jeopardy. The large conglomerates of the food industry are profiting handsomely by selling us de-vitalized,de-natured junk food but labeling it as healthy for us. They advertise that their sugary cereals will lower cholesterol and help us lose weight. They advertise that their juice drinks containing high fructose corn syrup are “all natural”. As Dr. Swarthout likes to say, “If the label says all natural, there’s probably nothing natural about it.”
The FDA has failed to protect consumers’ health by allowing such misinformation. The result is that we are an overweight population stricken with cancer, reproductive problems, heart-disease, diabetes, ADD/ADHD, allergies, asthma and chronic illness.
So, we must inform and educate ourselves. Below are some of our favorite information sources that dispel the popularized myths about what foods we should be eating, including dairy, wheat, meats, soy, nuts, oils, raw and cooked food. We also offer our own tips for sourcing and preparing high quality, nutritious foods…and getting them into our children’s diets as well.
With over 18 years of clinical experience, Dr. Swarthout has seen thousands of times over that the state of our health has everything to do with what we eat... however, there’s a lot more to knowing what we should be eating than most people ever imagined.
Enjoy your educational journey, and please share your own favorite resources with us.
Here’s to your best health! -
